Casares Zambrano

Investor and financial advisor. Founder of Buhox Capital and adjunct professor at Tec de Monterrey.

Purpose

I work at the intersection of investing and operating companies. I'm interested in how capital gets allocated, how decisions are made under uncertainty, and why companies with similar resources end up with different results.

My focus is helping owners and directors of mid-sized companies with their most consequential financial decisions —investment, growth, and capital structure— grounded in analysis and data, not intuition.

I've built my background around finance, strategy, statistics, and the psychology of decision-making, complemented by accounting, economics, operations, and tax. Analyzing a company requires understanding the system it operates in, not just its financial statements.

Areas of expertise

  • Intrinsic company valuation
  • Capital allocation: ROIC, WACC, return on invested capital
  • Investment analysis and capital structure
  • Decision-making under uncertainty (probabilistic frameworks)
  • Acquiring and operating companies (activist investing)

Advisory

I offer financial advisory to owners and directors of mid-sized companies who need a counterpart for investment, growth, and capital structure decisions: an outside CFO or a financial right hand.

The work centers on:

  • Valuation of the company and its business units
  • Capital structure and the balance between debt and reinvestment
  • Investment project analysis and capital allocation
  • Designing indicators and financial tracking for long-term decisions

The goal is for decisions to be made with real numbers and a consistent framework, beyond the short term.

Mentalidad Inversionista

A methodology for business owners to learn how much, when, and how to invest in companies: from sourcing opportunities to monitoring the portfolio. Published in Spanish.

How can one invest not only prudently but also successfully? That's the question everyone asks who is willing to risk part of their wealth in the hope of seeing it grow in the future. In this book, Jorge Casares dares to answer that question. He does so clearly, knowledgeably, and intelligently. This book is a gem.

Throughout this book we find very practical, easy-to-understand advice for building a suitable investment portfolio, to provide for and grow a family's wealth, regardless of the amount. Putting what's proposed here into practice safeguards and grows that wealth.

Ongoing study

Company valuation, drawing on Aswath Damodaran's courses and texts such as McKinsey's Valuation, applied both in public markets and in negotiating my own private-equity deals. Private equity, studying authors and case studies to go deeper into building value-added deals. Financial history, through biographies of business owners and their companies, to recognize patterns and value better.
